Meet at South Gate parking lot, 2.1 miles from the corner of Hwy 82 and Original Street.
Discover the birds of the 'dawn chorus,' an early morning bout of bird activity and singing that occurs daily during the summer breeding season. Yellow Warblers, Song Sparrows, Red-winged Blackbirds, Mountain Bluebirds, and many more fill the air with their songs and provide excellent views as they sing from prominent perches in the lush habitats of North Star Nature Preserve. This outing is provided jointly through Pitkin County Open Space & Trails and ACES. Be prepared for a cool, dewy morning and walking both on and off trail: dress in warm layers and wear sturdy footwear. Bring your binoculars, or borrow ours.
