Abraham Cruzvillegas was born in Mexico City, in 1968, where he continues to live and work. Since 2007, he has created a body of sculptures and installations that investigate what he calls autoconstruccion ("self-construction"), working with found materials and assemblage in reference to everyday practices also found in urban landscapes. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow, CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco, the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Haus der Kunst, Munich, Museo Amparo, Puebla, Mexico, Museo de Arte de Lima, Peru, Tate Modern, London, Carre d' Art- musee d'art contemporain de Nimes, France, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Rotterdam, and Kinsthaus Zurich.
