How has the Colorado Green Business Network been helpful to you?
The Colorado Green Business Network has given us the opportunity to be a better partner with our environment. Through the recognition process, we were able to recognize additional processes we could execute to be more sustainable. We discovered that our many small efforts added up to a big impact and how easy it is to implement these daily practices into our way of doing business.
Sustainability Initiatives Highlights
When items in our vacation rentals no longer serve their original purpose we don’t simply throw them away. We’ve built partnerships with local organizations to give these items a second life. Furniture, décor, and household items find new homes through donations to local thrift stores, our dedicated staff members, Habitat for Humanity of the Roaring Fork, and the Pitkin County Landfill Mercantile. We participate in Pitkin County's e-waste day to ensure electronics are properly recycled, and we've established systems for recycling everything from light bulbs and batteries to paper, glass, cardboard, and plastic. When our linens and towels reach the end of their useful life, we don't waste them—unusable towels are donated to the Aspen Animal Shelter where they provide comfort to animals in need, while worn linens are recycled at the Rio Grande Recycling Center.
Energy conservation is a cornerstone of our sustainability program. Our team diligently adjusts thermostats and closes curtains in unoccupied units to minimize energy consumption. We turn off all lights, electronics, and air conditioners when properties aren't in use, and we're continuously upgrading to energy-efficient appliances as older models need replacement.
Why Should Other Businesses Join the Program?
Aspen and Pitkin County have so many resources available to help all businesses be more sustainable. The Colorado Green Business Network experience brings to light the many options a business has to easily affect the environment in a positive way.
