How To: Get Outdoors in Aspen if you are Living with a Disability.

Challenge Aspen

This guest blog come from Challenge Aspen, a nonprofit dedicated to impacting lives through year-round adaptive experiences for individuals faced with cognitive and/or physical disabilities.

At Challenge Aspen, we welcome everyone to participate in our programming regardless of their ability or skill level. We encourage groups and individuals to get on the slopes and outdoors. Challenge Aspen will provide the complete support for those living with disabilities to experience summer outdoor adventures as well as skiing, snowboarding, and ski-biking.

Challenge Aspen, in partnership with Aspen Skiing Company, is able to provide those with disabilities private lesson packages at a discounted rate. Our private full and half day lesson packages include a PSIA Adaptive Certified Instructor, all equipment and a lift ticket, and in some cases an adaptive assistant. We also have trained adaptive assistants that can accompany an individual that skis or snowboards at the minimum of a level 7 or above (view levels here), by offering buddy-supported skiing for full or half days. The adaptive assistants are not certified to instruct, but are experienced skiers and snowboarders and possess the training needed to assist those with disabilities.

Reservations are required for both lesson packages and buddies.

In the same way we individualize experiences for each person, Challenge Aspen can create an itinerary of indoor and outdoor adaptive activities that are sure to engage everyone in your group. To find out more about group activities, click here

Challenge Aspen has never denied a participant due to financial need. In this spirit, for those that are in need, we have increased our available scholarship (Adventure Awards) funds substantially. The amount of Adventure Award will be based on annual household income, less participants medical expenses.

Please find the Adventure Awards Program application here.
