The city of Aspen recreation department is excited to announce the return of the Aspen parkrun series, starting May 3. Parkrun is a free, weekly 5k event where participants are welcome to walk, jog, run, volunteer, or spectate. This year, the community run series will feature a new course that starts and ends at Herron Park in downtown Aspen and follows an out-and-back route on the Rio Grande Trail.
Registration: First-time participants must register at parkrun.us/aspen to receive their unique barcode.
After the race, Swedish Hill bakery from the Aspen Art Museum will provide free drip coffee and a 10% discount on pastries for all park runners. Dogs are welcome on the course but must remain leashed.
“We’re thrilled to bring this year’s Aspen parkrun series back with an exciting new course,” said Shelley Roy, supervisor of recreation programs. “This event is open to everyone, regardless of fitness level, and we look forward to seeing the community come together to participate.”
The parkrun series is an international event, with 1,320 races occurring globally. Aspen parkrun holds the distinction of being the highest elevation parkrun in the world, drawing tourists and participants from all over the globe.
