5 Dog-Friendly Winter Activities
- Explore the streets of downtown Aspen alongside your furry friend and grab a dog treat at the bank or the visitor center.
- Looking for a winter workout? Skin up Buttermilk (uphill pass required) for a rewarding climb that will leave you and your pup feeling content. Please note that dogs are only allowed when the ski hill is closed (after 5 pm) and must be on a leash.
- Aspen is home to many open spaces and parks, including Wagner Park and the Marolt Open Space, where your dog can roll around in the snow, play with other dogs, and run free.
- Bernese Boulevard isn’t limited to just Bernese Mountain Dogs! Located on the Aspen Golf Course, Bernese Boulevard is a dog-friendly, groomed cross-country ski trail and snow-packed walking path. Rent skis at the Aspen Cross Country Center and head out on the trail with your pup.
Pamper your pup with a spa day! Barking Beauties Dog Spa and Zeppelin's Dirty Dogs are located in the heart of downtown Aspen. From a range of grooming services to massages at Barking Beauties and doggy day care at Zeppelin's, treat your dog to day of relaxation while you enjoy a spa day of your own.
5 Dog-Friendly Summer Activities
- Treat your pup to a dip in the river at the John Denver Sanctuary, a perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day. Find a shady spot to read your book or enjoy a picnic while your pup rolls around on the grass and dries off. On your way back to town, stop by Rio Grande Park, where your dog can get their energy out and play with other pups.
- Known for spectacular views of the city and Aspen Mountain, Smuggler is a moderate hike located just outside of town. Dogs are permitted to be off-leash, as long as they are under watch and respond to voice command, making Smuggler Mountain Road a perfect hike to enjoy with your furry friend.
- Each weekend, the Aspen Saturday Market brings fresh produce, artisan goods, and ready-to-eat treats to the streets of downtown Aspen. Before exploring the stands alongside your pup, check of the temperature of the pavement; it can get too hot for their paws. If you choose to bring your pup, go early, close to when the market opens at 8:30 am, or find a shady spot for your pup while you shop.
- If your pup is up for the ride, take the Silver Queen Gondola's dog-friendly cabin to the top of Aspen Mountain, or if you're up for a challenging trek, hike up Aspen Mountain and ride the gondola back to town. Make sure to bring plenty of water and take breaks- it'll get you and your pup panting! At the top, enjoy lunch on the patio at the Sundeck while your pup takes a quick nap and rests up for their next adventure.
- Take your pup on a shopping trip! You'll find treats, toys, and more at Rocky Mountain Pet Shop and the Aspen Animal Shelter.
