5 Places to Enjoy Outdoor Music Near Aspen
Aspen is all about enjoying life outside. There’s no better way to experience live music than at an outdoor venue with a scenic mountain backdrop.
1. Top of Aspen Mountain
Listen to live music under the open sky at over 11,000 feet! At the top of Aspen Mountain, enjoy lunch at the Sundeck and explore nearby hiking trails before or after catching a concert. Music on the Mountains (Saturdays at 1 p.m from July 4 - August 8) features classical music performed by talented Aspen Music Festival & School students, while Bluegrass music fills the mountains every Sunday at noon (June 12 - August 30). Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket and take in the panoramic mountain views during the performances. Both concerts are free with your purchase of a gondola ticket.
2. Aspen Music Festival and School
The Aspen Music Festival and School is known as one of the top classical music festivals in the nation. The eight-week summer season features a range of performances and programs: chamber music, classes, community events, lectures, opera, recitals, and more. While the events are held throughout the Aspen area, many are located in the Michael Klein Music Tent, an open-air tent with the acoustics of a concert hall, creating an outdoor feel with the features of an indoor venue. There is additional seating on the lawn outside of the tent, where listeners can enjoy the music while basking in the sun or sharing a picnic.
3. Snowmass Free Summer Concert Series
The Snowmass Free Summer Concert Series is a community favorite, bringing live music to Snowmass Mountain every Thursday evening. Dance the day away or kick back on a picnic blanket and enjoy mountain views as the sunset lights up the sky behind the stage.
4. Up In The Sky Festival
Belly Up Aspen is bringing back Up in the Sky, a two-day outdoor music festival hosting some of today’s biggest names at the base of Buttermilk Mountain. John Summit, Dom Dolla, Empire of the Sun, Parcels, Polo & Pan, and other talented musicians are set to take the stage along with a special Saturday performance by the Aspen Music Festival and School Orchestra.
5. JAS Labor Day Experience
The three-day JAS Labor Day Experience returns to Snowmass Town Park from September 4-6th, bringing big name musicians to a scenic outdoor setting. The weekend features performances from Benson Boone, Tim McGraw, Red Clay Strays, and many more, along with gourmet food and merch from local vendors.
