Packing for an Aspen getaway and wondering if you’ve missed something? Check out the top 10 things to pack for summer in Aspen.

Reservations and Tickets
Make reservations and register for events in advance. Summer is a popular time of year in Aspen and dining reservations can fill up quickly, making it best to book ahead of time. Parking and shuttle reservations are required for the Maroon Bells and are often required for campsites. In addition to outdoor activities, Aspen hosts a range of events. Check out our events calendar and register for anything from arts and culture celebrations to history tours to annual events, and more.
Rain Jacket and Waterproof Bag
While summer weather in the Rockies is mostly clear and sunny, it can be highly unpredictable; it could be sunny one moment and a shower could pass through the next. Wrap a rain jacket around your waist and put your belongings in a small waterproof bag on outdoor adventures.

Yoga Attire or Mat
Start your day off right and stretch before your next adventure with a yoga class. Hop on the Silver Queen Gondola or if you’re feeling up for it, hike to the top of Aspen Mountain for a morning of mountaintop yoga- the panoramic mountain views won’t disappoint! A variety of studios in downtown Aspen offer classes throughout the day or, if you prefer to practice on your own, bring your mat to one of Aspen’s parks and enjoy a serene outdoor studio.
Layers
Summer brings warm, bluebird days to the Rockies with daytime temperatures typically in the 70s and 80s (Fahrenheit). While there's plenty of shorts and t-shirts weather, the temperatures usually cool down by evening, making layers a must. Bring a light to mid-weight sweater and pants to enjoy a comfortable night on the town.

Picnic Blanket
Summer days in the mountains are spent swaying to live music under the open sky. From the top of Aspen Mountain to downtown Aspen to the outskirts of town, the community comes together to enjoy live music in scenic outdoor settings. Kick back on a picnic blanket while taking in the music and mountain views.
Sun Protection
A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are all summer essentials and are particularly important in the mountains; at higher altitudes, the UV increases in intensity. Whether you’re exploring the outdoors on nearby trails or attending an outdoor event, it’s important to come prepared and reapply sunscreen throughout the day.

Tote Bag or Backpack
Every Saturday, booths with local produce and handcrafted goods line the streets of downtown Aspen. A tote bag or backpack will come in handy for Aspen Saturday Market or shopping finds.
Reusable Water Bottle
At an elevation of 7,908 ft, the key to adjusting to high altitude is staying hydrated. With a reusable bottle, you’ll have access to water throughout the day whether you’re on the trails or strolling through town. Not to mention that Aspen tap, sourced from Castle and Maroon creeks, is some of the finest drinking water in the nation.

Walking Shoes
Aspen is home to hundreds of miles of trails. From gradually sloped paths to rewarding mountain climbs, Aspen offers a variety of terrain for a range of abilities. In addition to time on the trails, a comfortable pair of walking shoes is a necessity for wandering around Aspen during the day. Ditch the car and explore Aspen by bus or foot.
Trail Maps
While trails are usually well marked, it’s always best to know before you go. With routes varying in length and difficulty, check out Aspen’s hikes before you hit the trails and use a map or GPS while exploring for safety.
Bonus- Aspen is known for its Western style. Cowboy hats and boots are sported around town- pack your own or buy something with Western flair at one of Aspen’s local shops.
