ASPEN FILM ANNOUNCES ‘SUMMER OF CINEMA’ PROGRAMMING PARTNERS AND SCHEDULE
Aspen, Colo. (June 5, 2018) — Aspen Film, a year-round film arts and education non-profit organization, announced today its Summer of Cinema programming, which will host a robust schedule of screenings in Aspen at the Isis Theater and Aspen Art Museum, and in Basalt at The Temporary (TACAW).
In addition to its long-running, monthly Indie Showcase series co-presented with Metropolitan Theatres and Movies at the Museum with the Aspen Art Museum, Aspen Film has also forged new community partnerships with The
Arts Campus at Willits (TACAW) and The Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS).
“Following one of our most successful Shortsfest’s to date, we are excited to build on that momentum in the Roaring Fork Valley with a jam-packed schedule of offerings this summer in Aspen and Basalt,” says Aspen Film Executive Director Susan Wrubel. “In addition to our monthly Indie Showcase screenings, we are thrilled to forge official partnerships with The Arts Campus at Willits and the Aspen Music Festival and School in presenting ongoing film series throughout the season along with WindWalkers and the Shoah Foundation for special benefit screenings.”
The Arts Campus at Willits and Aspen Film will present ‘DAM Films,’ a series of acclaimed documentaries and compelling feature films that celebrate dance, art, and music (DAM) and showcase great performances, performers, musicians and artists. ‘DAM Films’ screen every Monday night this summer beginning on June 18 through August 20.
'We are thrilled to continue partnering with Aspen Film to bring compelling cinema to the Midvalley. Screening the ‘Best of Aspen Shortsfest’ at The Temporary was a resounding success and made it clear that there is a film audience we can build through collaboration,” says TACAW executive director, Ryan Honey. “The DAM Film Series is the next step in what we know will be a long-lasting and fruitful relationship for both organizations and, more importantly, the Midvalley audience.”
At the Aspen Music Festival and School, a summer of celebration and enlightenment is ahead and focused around Paris, City of Light. Expanding upon this season’s official theme, AMFS and Aspen Film will present ‘Le Cinema, La Musique,’ a four-film series of classic French films centered on music. ‘Le Cinema, La Musique’ films screen every Monday night in August.
Says Alan Fletcher, AMFS president and CEO, “We are delighted to partner with Aspen Film on a series of exceptional vintage films. All French works that highlight music, they perfectly complement our 2018 season.”
Filmgoers can also enjoy open-air cinema in the Roof Deck Sculpture Garden at the Aspen Art Museum, where the AAM and Aspen Film will present ‘The Loop,’ a five-film program inspired by Jay DeFeo’s exhibition The Ripple Effect, which examines an icon and her lasting impact on artists today. These films playfully capture the complexities of references and homages and genres range from fantasy, drama, and musical to documentaries, with stories that take the audience forward by looping back.
