Through the Mirrored Glass, a Conversation on Identity and Artistic Practice
Join us as we kick off Aspen ArtWeek and the inaugural Aspen Art Fair with a discussion between artists Zanele Muholi and Billie Zangewa, moderated by Peter Waanders, President and Chief Executive Officer of Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, Colorado. This conversation will explore the artistic practice of these two premier South African-based artists whose work includes themes of daily life, personal identity, gender, race, and sexuality. Both artists create powerful visual narratives using artistic mediums that span from photography to fiber arts and celebrate the lives of South Africa’s Black women and LGBTQ+ communities. The event will commence at 3:30 pm with an outdoor reception on The Wine Bar patio, featuring a selection of South African wines from Ken Forrester of Stellenbosch, as well as sparkling and still water. The talk will take place inside the Gallery at Element 47 with a Q&A session to follow.
Tickets are complimentary, though participants are asked to RSVP as seating is limited. Please note a maximum of two guests per order.
