The community is invited to a series of free events and the official declaration of “Albert Schweitzer Day” to celebrate the 76th anniversary of Albert Schweitzer’s visit to Aspen for Goethe Bicentennial Convocation in 1949, as well as the German polymath’s 150th birthday. Schweitzer was a philosopher, musician, physician, theologian, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient whose seminal visit to Aspen helped lay the foundation for the community’s growth as a hub of culture and humanistic ideas.
Experience a two-day celebration with a film, special organ performance, discussions, and merriment in the spirit of Albert Schweitzer leading up to the City of Aspen and Pitkin County’s joint Declaration of “Albert Schweitzer Day” on July 1st!
Events presented by Aspen Historical Society, Aspen Community Church and TACAW with support from the Alchemy Charitable Foundation, the Aspen Institute, The Alford Family, John Dougherty/ Human Service Innovations, Lachlan Forrow, Robert Moyer, Greg & Maureen Poschman.
