5Point Film Festival Presents 5Point Film Aspen- January 21, 2016: Launches 2016 Dream Project Scholarship Program
Carbondale, CO (January 5, 2016) – Carbondale’s best-loved community event 5Point Film Festival brings its concert-style film presentation to the ski town of Aspen for an evening of talks, screenings and special guests celebrating the adventure film genre, at Aspen’s Wheeler Opera House, Thursday, January 21, 2016. The evening’s event will be a fundraiser for 5Point’s signature festival in April while also a launch for the festival’s Dream Project. The evening events kick-off at 6 pm with a guest meet and greet, Sierra Nevada beers and food for purchase. The film program runs from 7-10pm with more than 10 short films including Eclipse, Kaleidoscope, The Other Way and Trail to Kazbegi and special guests including Eclipse director Anthony Bonello, Powder Magazine Photographer of the Year Reuben Krabbe, and skier/writer Brody Leven. There will also be a gear giveaway including trips and gear from Outdoor Research, YETI Coolers, Aspen Skiing Company, Ute Mountaineer and Aspen Expeditions. Tickets are $25. As well as an event fundraiser, the Aspen evening will see the launch of 5Point’s Dream Project, a unique program which offers outstanding high school students from Aspen to Parachute the chance to explore their own personal boundaries and dreams. The five students that best exemplify 5Point’s five guiding principles will receive a $1500 scholarship to embark on a life-changing opportunity and follow their passions. Previous recipients of the grant have undertaken projects including leading a youth backpacking trip in the Roaring Fork Valley, take a cooking class in Denver, shadowed writers in New York, taught soccer in Puerto Rico, kayaked and performed malaria work in Uganda. Applicants can visit the 5Point website to submit an application or for more information: http://5pointfilm.org/dream/applying
“The focus of the 5Point Dream Project is to inspire high-school aged students, sparking a fire within them to forever explore, innovate and problem solve. Projects are required to involve a learning experience while having a positive impact on a community, with fun,” said Sarah Wood, Executive Director of 5Point Film. “5Point believes in celebrating and building strong communities around positive shared experiences. We believe in being good stewards of the environment. And we believe that inspiring storytelling through film, and moving live experiences are the best way to impact a community, bring them together and spark positive change.”
5Point Film Festival is in its ninth season producing its signature four-day festival in Carbondale Colorado at the end of April each year. The Colorado festival has also expanded its regional concert-style festival across the country, with new locations in including Asheville, NC, and Bellingham, WA, in 2015, with future Midwest and Northeast locations to be announced for 2017 and 2018. In an effort to expand its mission of inspiring adventure and storytelling of all kinds, the non-profit created a unique 5Point style show, rather than bring the Carbondale show on a tour. By creating regional hubs across the country, 5Point will inspire other communities and celebrate their local filmmakers, athletes and artists, like 5Point has been doing to sell out crowds for Colorado’s Rocky Mountain region.
