ACES’ Education Director Brings Experience, Familiarity, and Passion for Environmental Education
Andrea Aust, ACES’ new Education Director, will start work in early July

Aspen, Colorado, June 3, 2019 — After a nationwide search, ACES is excited to introduce its new Education Director, Andrea Aust, who will start in early July 2019.

Andrea comes to ACES from the San Francisco area, where she worked in a number of capacities in the environmental education field. As the Program Manager for the Marine Science Institute, Andrea oversaw all education programs, in addition to developing environmental science curricula. During her eight years at the Marine Science Institute, Andrea also managed a team of science educators serving more than 40,000 students and adults per year.

Most recently, Andrea worked for 12 years at KQED, Public Media for Northern California, leading the development of standards-based STEM education resources and curricula, spearheading online professional development experiences for STEM educators, and developing educational materials for national PBS productions. In addition to her professional work, she was the chair of the Marine Science Institute’s Board of Directors and recently led that organization through its new strategic plan.

Andrea was also an ACES Naturalist in 1998.

Andrea holds science and education degrees from University of California, Berkeley and University of San Francisco, respectively.

“I am honored to join the ACES team and bring my passion for environmental education to this position. I believe that every adult and child should have the opportunity to build connections with nature and have meaningful, relevant experiences to learn about the environment. I look forward to working with the Roaring Fork Valley schools and communities to provide innovative education programs that prepare both students and adults to become environmentally literate citizens,” Aust said.

Chris Lane, CEO at ACES, said, “If we’re actually going to change the way this country thinks about environmental protection and the natural world, then we need Andrea’s leadership. Her 20+ years of environmental science education experience and communication skills are critical to helping this organization make progress in our mission of educating not only children, but also leaders and influencers of all ages about environmental responsibility.”
