Anderson Ranch Arts Center Presents: Hot Off the Press

Gallery Exhibition and Reception featuring Anderson Ranch Editions

On Display February 3 - March 10, 2023. Opening Reception February 17, 5-6PM

Aspen/Snowmass, CO (February 6, 2023) — Anderson Ranch Arts Center, a premiere destination for art making and critical dialog in contemporary arts, is pleased to present Hot Off the Press, an exhibition of recently completed Anderson Ranch Editions prints by established, world-renowned artists including:

  • John Buck

  • Elinor Carucci

  • Elliott Hundley

  • Robert Kushner

  • Steve Locke

  • Hiroki Morinoue

  • Shana and Robert ParkeHarrison

  • Simonette Quamina

  • Clare Rojas

  • Tom Sachs

Since 1978, top contemporary artists have visited Anderson Ranch Arts Center and produced quality artwork in the Patton Print Shop. The prints in this show carry on the tradition of Anderson Ranch Editions’ mission of helping artists’ realize their ideas and sending them out into the world. Printmaking has always incorporated cutting-edge technology with traditional skills, and the Ranch encourages artists to combine traditional print processes with the newest digital technology. With the support of loyal donors Mike Lyon and Betty and Lloyd Schermer, the print program has maintained a high level of excellence that encourages artistic experimentation and helps artists grow and connect.

“When an artist comes to work here they leave behind their studio, bringing only ideas and expectations to the Ranch. Those ideas almost always change during the process of making prints and evolve beyond what both the artist and I understood is possible,” explains Master Printer and Director of Anderson Ranch Editions, Brian Shure. “As the printer in charge, I try to explain the various limitations of the different processes in order for the work to be successful. The artists naturally push against these limitations, and when things go well, we learn—and make—something new. I think this process of discovery is the most important thing we can do for artists.”

Among other prints, Hot Off the Press will display the latest Anderson Ranch Editions project – a suite of 9 prints by renowned artist Steve Locke. The prints are a continuation of two important bodies of work within Locke’s practice, his critically acclaimed Homage to the Auction Block and cruisers series, which was just on view in his New Yorker reviewed exhibition at Alexander Gray Associates in New York this winter.

“It was a joy to work with Steve Locke on the most recent project we completed. To have the experience of working over the months it took to realize these prints was a privilege,” shares Brian Shure. “The delicately powerful cruiser print came at the very last minute, painted on a plate I had prepared. It transitioned us both out of the magical trance of the exploration of color, to the work that Steve was immersed in back at his studio, into another kind of attentive portrayal of inner states.”

Patton-Malott Gallery receptions are free and open to the public. Registration is required.

The Patton-Malott Gallery is a gallery space on the Anderson Ranch campus. Its contemporary and rustic ranch architectural elements provide the backdrop for rotating exhibitions throughout the year.
