BlackRock’s Philipp Hildebrand to Speak on Climate Change and Investing in Aspen

ACES hosts BlackRock Vice Chairman at free Jessica Catto Dialogue lecture on June 20th

Aspen, Colorado, June 12, 2018 — What happens when the world’s largest investment firm takes a stance on climate change? On Wednesday, June 20th, Philipp Hildebrand will share BlackRock’s groundbreaking direction in a presentation entitled “Sustainable Investing: A Turning Point” for ACES’ first Jessica Catto Dialogue of the summer. The event will take place at 6PM at Harris Concert Hall and is free and open to the public.

Philipp Hildebrand is Vice Chairman of BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager ($6 trillion). BlackRock notably started 2018 with a declaration to business leaders that their companies must contribute to society, not just make profits, if they want to receive BlackRock's support. Additionally, BlackRock concluded that "investors can no longer ignore climate change" and that "climate-aware investing is possible without compromising on traditional goals of maximizing investment returns."

As Vice Chairman of the corporation, Philipp has a deep understanding of this revolutionary investment mindset getting attention on Wall Street. In his free lecture, "Sustainable Investing: A Turning Point," Philipp will share BlackRock's progressive approach at the intersection of climate change, investment, and social purpose.

“BlackRock's position on the implications of climate change and social purpose in regards to long term financial returns is one of the most visionary and thoughtful positions to come out of Wall Street,” said Chris Lane, CEO of ACES. “Hildebrand will address this important topic head-on, providing the latest thinking on sustainable and climate-related investment tools and strategies.”

“As we all know, there are many ways to address climate change and environmental responsibility. But when the world’s largest asset manager takes action on these kinds of issues, it is critical that we support and learn from them,” said Lane.

ACES’ Jessica Catto Dialogues honor the environmental legacy of Jessica Hobby Catto through a speaker series featuring visionary thinkers and doers from all realms of environmental concerns. The series is supported by the Catto Shaw family in Jessica’s memory.
