CY GAVIN at Aspen Art Museum
March 30–July 11, 2021
ASPEN, COLORADO (March 1, 2021)—The Aspen Art Museum (AAM) is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by American painter Cy Gavin (b.1985). This will be the artist’s first solo museum presentation in the US and will take place from March 30 to July 11, 2021.
Gavin inhabits and depicts places at once both personal and collective. In his latest work, the artist connects concepts of ownership with the articulation of power within societies. Through his painting, the human condition vis-à-vis the politics of place is writ large.
For this exhibition, Gavin also continues to question how a site—whether the natural landscape, subterranean, or outer space—can be subject to identification or definition.
Gavin’s AAM presentation is curated by AAM Curator at Large Saim Demircan.
