Aspen, CO, March 1, 2017 — Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) and Patagonia Snowmass will host the Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour at the Wheeler Opera House on Thursday, March 9th at 6:30PM. The festival, returning to Aspen after two years of sold-out screenings, is a collection of short films that inspire and motivate audiences to take action and become part of the solution to issues ranging from energy, food systems, biodiversity, recreation, climate change, and the protection and restoration of wild lands and waters. The evening will feature a curated line-up of nine films including the award-winning short Pangolin, an intimate glimpse into the most illegally trafficked mammal on the planet. Additional screenings include the moving tribute film Douglas Tompkins, A Wild Legacy and The High Divide, a new file that celebrates the American West and its visionary people. “In a changing world as vivid and complex as our Earth, seeing is believing,” says On Tour Associate Director, Amelia Workman. “We are certain the films you’ll see carry messages that are propelling the groundswell of the environmental movement. The Wild & Scenic Film Festival team thanks ACES & Patagonia Snowmass for bringing these amazing films to Aspen and we hope you’ll attend!” The film festival aligns naturally with ACES’ work to inspire people to act on behalf of the environment. All event proceeds benefit ACES’ Tomorrow’s Voices program in honor of Willard Clapper, who founded the program with fellow educator A.O. Forbes in 2000. Tomorrow’s Voices is a college-level class providing civics and environmental leadership education for Roaring Fork Valley high school students. ACES is grateful for the partnership of Patagonia Snowmass, as well as community support from Gold Sponsors Aspen Sports, Forum Phi, Westin Snowmass, and Aspen Daily News, and Silver Sponsors The Gant and KSPN. The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started in 2003 by the watershed advocacy group, the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL). The annual festival, now in it’s 15th year, kicks-off every January in Nevada City, CA followed by an international tour to over 150 communities around the globe. The festival is a call to action where film-goers are transformed into a congregation of committed activists, dedicated to saving our increasingly threatened planet.
