GOSPEL AND R&B ARTIST LIZ VICE TO PERFORM AT THE WHEELER OPERA HOUSE

Aspen, CO (October 12, 2016): Solo R&B, gospel and soul heroine Liz Vice will play the Wheeler Opera House on Saturday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the On the Rise series which features new, up-and-coming musical artists. Vice is recognizable for her single “Empty Me Out,” which garnered her acclaim from news outlets such as NPR and NBC News, as well as for her unorthodox approach to her own music. In an exclusive interview with NBC’s Emma Wilkinson, Vice explained that “these songs remind me that life doesn’t revolve around me.  Liz Vice’s career began in 2015 in Portland, Oregon, with the release of her first studio album, “There’s a Light,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart and No. 12 on the R&B Albums chart. With a love of storytelling, Vice has worked behind the scenes in the film and video industry, as well as behind the mic at live events. Her dynamic, soulful vocals are combined with lyrics that are classically influenced enough to feel timeless and reference her deep-rooted spirituality.

 “She’s stunning and beautiful and her voice just echoes all of these really cool differences of what an R&B singer can really bring to the table,” says Wheeler Opera House Executive Director Gena Buhler. “I think we’re so used to a pop sound and a blues sound, but you get Liz and she brings a different thing to the table. For me, it’s just so good because you want to listen to the words, but then there’s the harmonies and how it blends with her band, everything else really comes together in the perfect package.”

As a young girl, Liz Vice was the middle of five children raised by her mother and would hide out in the basement dancing and lip syncing to songs on the radio and soundtracks from her favorite movies. At the age of 19, Vice’s health declined and spent three and a half years on hemodialysis. After a kidney transplant in December 2005, Vice used her music and storytelling as a form of recovery.

Vice has performed onstage with many other recording artists, including Eric Early of Blitzen Trapper, Josh White (Telecast), Josh Garrels, Tunde Baiyewu (Lighthouse Family), Luz Mendoza (Y La Bamba), Eshon Burgundy (Humble Beast). She has been featured in such Portland events as the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, Portland Soundcheck, Soul’d Out Music Festival, Siren Nation Music Festival, Music on Main Street, and has opened for such artists as Cody Chesnutt and Saint Paul and The Broken Bones.
