MEET JUNE WRITER IN RESIDENCE TOM BOUMAN

Winner of the L.A. Times Book Prize and the Edgar Award for Best First Novel

Aspen, CO (June 2, 2016) –  A book editor and musician-turned law student and author, Tom Bouman will spend the month of June in Woody Creek, Colorado as part of Aspen Words’ Writers in Residence program. He plans to work on the second and third books in his series of mystery novels, which started with his debut, Dry Bones in the Valley.

Bouman will read from his work and discuss his writing process at a free event on Tuesday, June 14th at the Woody Creek Community Center. Free copies of his debut novel are available through the Aspen Words Catch & Release program, with pick-up locations at the Red Brick Building in Aspen and at the Woody Creek Community Center.

Dry Bones in the Valley takes place in a rural township, not dissimilar from Bouman’s own home in the Pennsylvanian countryside. When an elderly recluse discovers a corpse, Officer Henry Farrell begins a murder investigation that threatens to tear his sleepy community apart. Bouman did extensive research on forensics, police procedure, hydrofracking, and the drug trade to create utterly convincing characters and setting. The Washington Post gave the following praise: “Bouman brings his world to life with texture that gives every room and vehicle and person a history and character, keeping us immersed in this mesmerizing and often terrifying story.”

The 2016 Writers in Residence program, held in partnership with the Catto Shaw Foundation, kicked off in May with a standing-room-only event featuring Sunil Yapa. The residency program will continue throughout the summer and fall. The complete line-up with author bios is available at aspenwords.org.
