New Austin nonstops highlight expanded summer flights from Texas
Full Summer Schedules Take Effect Today into the Aspen / Pitkin County Airport (ASE)
(Aspen, CO – June 3, 2021) Following the successful completion of a runway rehabilitation project that required a six-day airport closure, ASE is ready to accept a robust schedule of summer flights now planned by both American and United. Today American resumes nonstop flights from four hubs while initiating new nonstop service from Austin, Texas (AUS) starting this Saturday. This inaugural flight represents ASE’s first new nonstop route since Houston service was added more than ten years ago.
United also resumes nonstop flights today from a total of five hubs. Combined, a total of 23 daily flights (24 on Saturdays) are now planned through August 16 as follows:
-
American: Four flights daily from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), two flights daily each fromChicago / O’Hare (ORD) and Los Angeles (LAX), one daily from Phoenix (PHX), plus new Saturday service from AUS for a total of 9 flights daily, 10 on Saturdays.
-
United: Eight flights daily from Denver (DEN), two flights daily each from Houston (IAH) and LAX, and one daily each from ORD & San Francisco (SFO) for a total of 14 flights daily.
All nonstop flights are currently scheduled to continue through Labor Day weekend, albeit on slightly reduced schedules after August 16. American’s new summer service from Austin andUnited’s service from San Francisco are currently scheduled to end after Labor Day. All other nonstop flights are now scheduled to continue through at least October 4. All commercial flights into ASE are operated by SkyWest Airlines using CRJ700’s configured with 65-70 seats.
What is especially significant about this summer’s flight offerings is the increased number of nonstop flights from Texas. In the summer of 2019, United offered one daily nonstop from Houston while American offered twice daily service from DFW for a total of three flights daily from Texas. Starting today, United is now offering twice daily service from Houston while American is offering four flights daily from DFW, in addition to new Saturday nonstop flights from Austin, for a total of six flights daily from Texas, seven on Saturdays.
