Announcing “Sculpturally Distanced”
Anderson Ranch’s First Ever Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
“Sculpturally Distanced” features 17 works placed on the Ranch campus; opens the week of July 6, 2020
Aspen/Snowmass, CO (July 8, 2020) — Anderson Ranch Arts Center announces a completely new outdoor sculpture installation on the Ranch campus, titled “Sculpturally Distanced: an Anderson Ranch Outdoor Exhibition” opening the week of July 6, 2020.
The exhibition is underwritten by Lugano Diamonds and features the work of 17 local, national and internationally-acclaimed artists. It is curated by longtime Roaring Fork Valley art advisor Lissa Ballinger, who assumes the title of Director of Exhibitions and Sales for Anderson Ranch.
The exhibition will be installed through September, 2021 and a selection of the works are for sale, with proceeds shared between Anderson Ranch and the artists. This exhibition is a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting the Ranch’s agility and nimbleness in the face of sudden changes in programming and public-facing offerings.
“This sculpture installation is one of the most exciting changes to the Ranch campus in years, providing a new and fresh way of exploring and experiencing this amazing gem of a campus. In the middle of COVID-19, it was so important to us that we find a way to keep the community and visitors engaged with the Ranch, art and artmaking. We wanted to create an experience that people enjoy on their own while maintaining physical distancing” said Anderson Ranch President and CEO Peter Waanders. He continued, “It will activate the campus in an entirely new way, allowing visitors to explore works by very different artists, speaking to different idea and experiences. Our five-acre campus allows people to safely walk around and explore something new. Whether you come to campus often, or have never been before, it’s exciting to see these monumental works.”
Said Ballinger of the project: “This exhibition demonstrates the necessity of arts organizations and artists to be nimble and willing to change course and act quickly. It is extraordinary that the invited artists were able to submit proposals, and deliver work, within just a few weeks, while the entire Ranch staff, and the Town of Snowmass Village, jumped in to install them made it a reality so quickly. This is community collaboration at its best. The result is a thought-provoking and engaging sculpture exhibition representing international artists and bringing vibrancy to this 54-year-old beloved Snowmass institution. I am grateful that we can safely welcome visitors to the Ranch and continue to engage in conversations about the arts.”
