Presenting a wide range of themes, film screenings at the AAM reveal important perspectives of filmmakers and artists of our time.
Director Focus: Julian Schnabel
As a complement to his exhibition of paintings this fall at the AAM, this season’s Movies at the Museum celebrates three feature-length films by Julian Schnabel that tell the true stories of brave, creative individuals.
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is based on Jean-Dominique Bauby's memoir, revealing his life after suffering a massive stroke that left him with a condition known as locked-in syndrome. The condition paralyzed him from the neck down, leaving only his left eye as a portal of communication with the outside world.
