"Sunrise" Easter Service on Aspen Mountain with the Aspen Chapel
The Aspen Chapel inherited the tradition of Sunrise Easter Service in 1973 from Rev. Frank Harvey when it was held in various locations throughout Aspen and at sunrise. When the Silver Queen Gondola was installed in 1987, Sunrise Easter Service found its permanent location on Aspen Mountain and has been held there ever since.
The service does not exactly follow “Sunrise” Easter Service tradition, when congregants witness the dawn's first rays together, but starts at 8:30 am when the sun is just high enough over the mountains to warm attendees with its rays.
