Meet at South Gate parking lot, 2.1 miles from the corner of Hwy 82 and Original Street.
This guided outing takes the group to the south side of the river at North Star Nature Preserve, into an area that is otherwise restricted to 'wildlife only.' We will observe birds such as swallows, wrens, red-winged blackbirds, ducks, herons, and more in the wetlands, sagebrush, aspen groves, and mixed forests of this unique area. This special outing is offered jointly by Pitkin County Open Space & Trails and ACES. Be prepared for 2 miles of walking both on and off trail over uneven ground. Bring your binoculars (or borrow ours), and wear warm layers and sturdy footwear. Group size is limited, so please RSVP to reserve your spot.
