Patkau Architects was founded in 1978 by John and Patricia Patkau. John Patkau was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1947, and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Master of Architecture degree in 1972. A LEED-accredited professional, he is also a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and the Royal Institute of British Architects, a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art, and a Member of the Order of Canada.
