Fall Itinerary

Fall brings bluebird days, crisp mountain air, and spectacular golden hues, making it one of the most beautiful times of year to visit Aspen. Discover a few of the best ways to enjoy a fall day in Aspen.

8 am

Start your day by enjoying breakfast with a view. From fresh pastries and a steaming cup of coffee to locally inspired dishes, there are a variety of spots to choose from. Wear a light jacket and catch early morning rays on the patio at a local restaurant or café.

10 am

Wander through downtown Aspen and explore the local shops while surrounded by views of Aspen Mountain and the fall colors. Aspen is home to world-class shopping, offering everything from jewelry to western attire to art, and more. On a crisp fall day, stop by Explore Booksellers, an Aspen staple located in a quaint Victorian style house, to enjoy a cozy morning of books and warm drinks at their upstairs café.

1 pm

After a morning of roaming through downtown Aspen, fuel up for an afternoon of leaf peeping and outdoor adventures with lunch on the town. Aspen's local restaurants offer exceptional food in a beautiful, mountain setting.

3 pm

Exploring Aspen's ghost towns is a festive fall activity, ideal for enjoying the stunning fall colors and spending time in the mountains. From Ute hunting grounds to a silver mining hub to a renowned ski resort, Aspen has a compelling history. The Independence Ghost Town, located just below the summit of Independence Pass, and Ashcroft Ghost Town, located on Castle Creek Road, are home to historic mining sites. Independence Pass and Castle Creek Road offer some of the best displays of the fall colors, giving you the chance to enjoy beautiful scenery along the way.

6 pm

After a full day of activities, you'll be ready for a tasty dinner. Enjoy dining at a local restaurant in downtown Aspen, and for a more affordable option with equally delicious offerings, check out Aspen's bar menus. After dinner, head over to Paradise Bakery, a beloved town favorite, for a freshly baked cookie or homemade ice cream.

8 pm

The day doesn't end there! From annual favorites to exciting new events, the season brings a variety of arts and culture events to Aspen. After dinner, catch a screening at the Aspen Filmfest, a concert at the Belly Up, or a performance at the Wheeler Opera House. Check out our events calendar for the night's happenings.
