Permits for the limited overnight areas for trips occurring Feb. 15-July 31 will be available on https://www.recreation.gov/permits/4675333 beginning at 8 a.m. (MST) on Feb. 15, with limited overnight permits for Aug. 1-Nov. 30 available June 15.
Camping around the Maroon Bells
Stay amidst the natural beauty of the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness with a night under the stars at one of the three campgrounds available in the summer. For those who seek adventure and are ready to explore the rugged terrain, backcountry camping is also an option. Reservations are mandatory for both campgrounds and backcountry camping. It's recommended to make reservations in advance, especially during peak season, as campsites can fill up quickly.
Maroon Bells Campgrounds
5 miles southwest of Aspen on Maroon Creek Road is Silver Bar Campground, it has 4 campsites. The season ranges from mid-May to early-October. Elevation is 8,460 ft. It has no fishing access, but it does have hiking access. It also has vault toilets, water and trash facilities. Silver Bar campsite does not accept trailers. Reservations required

Backcountry Camping
Limited overnight permits in the most heavily used areas of the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness are required and can be found at recreation.gov.
Camping is prohibited within 100 feet of all trails, streams, and lakes if you decide to build your own campsite. You must be OUT OF SIGHT when camping in open areas. Above timberline, only stoves are allowed in the alpine tundra. For more information, contact the Aspen Ranger District at 970-925-3445.
Bear Resistant Canisters
Bear Resistant Canisters are required for overnight camping in Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness Area.
Canisters are available at Aspen Expeditions, Ute Mountaineer and Four-Mountain Sports for rent or purchase.
