5 Places to Practice Yoga in Aspen

Yoga SethBeckton

Aspen is home to one of the largest growing yoga communities around. With all the strenuous summer activities, yoga is the perfect complementary workout to reward your body and get you prepared for your next big adventure. From yoga on top of Aspen Mountain at 11,212 feet to yoga outside at Hallam Lake, and studios around town, check out our top picks for yoga spots in Aspen:

ACES Yoga in the Wild: Led by ACES (Aspen Center for Environmental Studies) yoga teachers, this donation-based class is outdoor and held along the edge of Hallam Lake. Offered every Tuesday night at 5:15 in the summer, yogis of all levels are invited to enjoy an evening of relaxation with memorable views in the great outdoors. All donations will benefit the ACES environmental science education programs. (Hallam Lake, 100 Puppy Smith St.)

Arjuna Yoga: Be ready to sweat in this hot yoga only studio that offers both Vinyasa and Bikram lessons. Arjuna provides classes in a heated studio that emphasizes the importance of sweating to detoxify the body and breathing in motion. You’ll leave feeling energized and relaxed as you experience a wide range of dynamic postures. (517 East Hopkins Ave.)

Aspen Shakti: Be sure to check out this local yoga studio that continues to emphasize a strong community among locals and visitors. You’ll never be bored at Shakti, as they offer top of the Mountain classes, HIIT (high interval intensity training) sessions, dance choreography, below the moon yoga, and even Rosé-all-day yoga classes. (535 E Hyman Ave.) Bonus! Join Shakti Sundays in Summer - DJ Yoga -  Every Sunday in Paepke Park 10:30 a.m. -11:30 p.m. $45 with DJ.

Mountain Top Yoga at Aspen Mountain: Held by local studio Aspen Shakti (featured above), you won’t want to miss this peaceful class hosted directly on the top of Ajax Mountain. Offered 5-days a week during the summer season, guests can either take the Silver Queen Gondola up to the top, or ambitious yogis can hike up Ajax in time to make the 10:30 a.m. class. Enjoy a peaceful hour of yoga and meditation, observing spectacular 360-degree views overlooking the Elk Mountain Range. Treat yourself to a rewarding lunch at the Sundeck after and ride the gondola back down after your peaceful morning.

O2 Aspen: This Aspen favorite studio features top tier teachers from the West and offers a variety of classes that emphasize breathing, strengthening, lengthening, and toning. In addition to the yoga studio, O2 features a spa, Pilates classes, a nutrition program, and an activewear shop. (408 S. Mill St.)
