January 26th marks the official national day of Australia Day. It celebrates the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson. Much like our Fourth of July celebration in the United Sates, Australia Day celebrates its country becoming independent but with a heavy side of cocktails, food, and partying with friends.
There has been a long time influence of Australian culture in Aspen. Australian's have been coming to Aspen ever since the early 1990s. Their love for sunny skies and great weather always leads them straight to our magical mountain town. Pair that with great snow and expert terrain and it's an easy sell to all. Any signs of homesickness can be cured at Victoria's Espresso and Wine Bar, a local favorite establishment providing an authentic Aussie cafe experience with true Australian style coffee, brekkie and more.
In honor of Australia Day, the Aspen Mountain Silver Queen Gondola will open one hour early with Australian flags waving in the wind. Before you hop on the gondola, make sure to grab some Australian favorites; Vegemite, Lamingtons, and Tim Tam's. At lunchtime, many of the on-mountain restaurants will have Aussie Day specials featuring Australian themed meals at a great price. The official Aussie après will be held at Ajax Tavern with Aussie specials, music and more. For complete information on Aspen/Snowmass' Australia Day specials and events click here. See you on the slopes!
