Colorado Green Business Network of Aspen: BOSQ

We are highlighting the incredible efforts of Aspen businesses participating in the Colorado Green Business Network. This program is designed to support and celebrate businesses that are committed to sustainable practices. Through this series, we'll showcase how these businesses are making a difference in our community and environment. Discover their innovative initiatives and learn why sustainability is crucial for Aspen. For more information about the Colorado Green Business Network of Aspen, visit here. Read below on BOSQ’s commitment to sustainability in their Aspen business.

How has the Colorado Green Business Network Program been helpful to you?

The CGBN program has been incredibly beneficial, helping us focus our sustainability efforts where they can make the most significant impact. It provided us with a clearer understanding of our waste, electricity, and gas usage, driving home the importance of mindful consumption and waste management.

Sustainability Initiatives Highlights:

  1. Composting and Zero Waste Practices: We have implemented extensive composting to ensure that as much organic waste as possible is diverted from landfills. Our zero waste practices are a cornerstone of our sustainability efforts.
  2. Energy Efficiency Upgrades: We have switched to energy-efficient cooking appliances and lighting. This not only reduces our carbon footprint but also cuts down on energy costs.
  3. Local Sourcing and Minimizing Transportation Footprint: By using local products, food suppliers, and workers, we reduce the carbon footprint associated with shipping and transportation. Additionally, we’ve switched to an in-house water filtration and carbonation system, eliminating the need for bottled water.
  4. Sustainable Laundry Practices: We have eliminated the use of laundered tablecloths and napkins from Alsco Linen Services. Instead, we use a local laundry service for napkins and have done away with tablecloths entirely.
  5. Staff Training: Continuous in-house training ensures our staff is knowledgeable about proper waste disposal and maintaining low energy usage, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability at every level.

Why Should Other Businesses Join the Program?

Joining the CGBNA program strengthens our community’s collective efforts toward sustainability. Beyond environmental benefits, implementing sustainable practices can also lead to cost savings for businesses. It’s a win-win situation where the community and individual businesses both benefit.

Importance of This Work in Aspen

While sustainability is crucial everywhere, Aspen’s unique environment makes it even more imperative. Protecting our beautiful surroundings requires a concerted effort from all local businesses and residents. Sustainable practices ensure that Aspen remains a pristine and attractive destination for future generations.

Final Thoughts

Now that we are set up with the CGBNA and actively tracking our energy usage and waste disposal, we are excited to assess our progress annually. This data will be a valuable tool to further encourage and refine our sustainable practices, ensuring continuous improvement.
