This International Women's Day, we are thrilled to be partnering with EDGE Outdoors to elevate women of color in snow sports! We believe in the power of sports to bring people together and create positive change in the world.
When it comes to snow sports, there are a multitude of barriers (financially and culturally) to overcome. EDGE Outdoors is actively trying to diminish these obstacles by addressing economic justice and providing a space for women of color to come together and build community. With only 2% of grant funding going to Black and Indigenous organizations, Aspen Chamber Resort Association is extremely excited to support them in their mission!
EDGE Outdoors is a Black woman led Washington State non-profit that is creating meaningful, long-term change in our communities to help empower women of color to reach their fullest potential. They were established at Stevens Pass Mountain Resort in Washington state and their mission is to attract and retain Black, Indigenous, Women of Color including Trans-Women of Color and Genderqueer persons in snow sports while encouraging leadership within the snow sports industry.
EDGE Outdoors provides scholarships for learn to ski and snowboard. In addition, they offer avalanche education, intro-to-backcountry, athlete development, Instructor training, and professional certification courses. Each scholarship addresses accessibility with lessons, gear, lodging, and transportation. Furthermore, EDGE Outdoors provides racial equity training to ski areas to bring awareness to gender and racial disparities - They want to help advance inclusion on all levels and create meaningful, sustainable, long-term change.
While skiing and riding can be an incredibly liberating experience, EDGE Outdoors wants to provide additional experiences that promote the overall health, and wellness for women of color through education and outdoor adventures this summer with Aspen Chamber Resort Association.
